Balsillie Pursuing Predators
After failing to buy the Pittsburgh Penguins, wireless billionaire Jim Balsillie is apparently taking a run at purchasing the Nashville Predators for $220-million, according to the Toronto Star. Like Pittsburgh, Nashville is a strong, young team. Unlike Pittsburgh, Nashville doesn’t really appear to have enough fan support to sustain an NHL franchise. Despite having one of the best teams in the league, the Predators drew a disappointing 14,000 fans per game. The question is whether Balsillie is committed to Nashville or whether there are clauses in its agreement with the arena that could allow Balsillie to move the team if certain benchmarks such as season ticket sales aren’t met.
