Big Bert Has an Owie - Anaheim Ducks Shelve Him
Another day, another injury for Anaheim Ducks forward, Todd Bertuzzi. He’s got a concussion and is expected to miss at least one week of work.
Bertuzzi, 32, sustained the injury in an on-ice collision with Derek Boogaard during the first period of Sunday’s 2-0 loss to the Minnesota Wild.
“He moved the puck toward the net, and Boogaard … took an extra step to come down to hit him,” Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle said. “His shoulder or arm area caught flush on the jaw of Bertuzzi.”
Bertuzzi has one goal and one assist for two points in seven games with the Ducks, who inked him to a two-year, $8-million US contract on July 2.
Back problems limited him to just 15 games last season, which he split between the Florida Panthers and Detroit Red Wings.
Bertuzzi, a two-time all-star, has totalled 227 goals and 542 points in 732 NHL games since being drafted 23rd overall by the New York Islanders in 1993.
The Sudbury, Ont., native enjoyed his finest season five years ago, posting 45 goals and 97 points for the Vancouver Canucks.
Don’t say it! Don’t say “what goes around, comes around.” I know you want to - resist the temptation. I think the last couple years have been tough enough for Big Bert without you stating the obvious…
Chris Simon, Steve Downie and Jesse Boulerice send their love, Todd.
