Calgary Flames End Losing Streak

by Jeanne on December 5th, 2007

Mark Smith cocks his fist in a fight with Dan Hinote in a 3-1 Flames win. Sheesh!!!  As a Calgarian, I was beginning to just wince and shutter on game nights wondering "is this going to be the night?"  And, finally, tonight was THE night!

The Calgary Flames hosted the much improved St. Louis Blues tonight and the night had an ominous feeling for the Blues right from the pre-game when goalie, Manny Legace, injured his knee and was forced to sit out of the game.  Hannu Toivenen replaced him and no one can say that he didn’t do his job.  He was spectacular in the second period when he stopped all but 2 of the 20 shots he faced.  To put that in perspective, Flames netminder, Miikka Kiprusoff faced only 22 shots for the whole game!

Alex Tanguay, one of my personal favorite players in the whole NHL, set up two second-period goals for Marcus Nilson and Dustin BoydKristian Huselius scored the final goal with 73 seconds remaining in the game.

The Flames beat the St. Louis Blues 3-1.

"I give the Flames credit," Blues head coach Andy Murray said. "They have been playing really hard for the past few games."

"We got off to a good start tonight [outshooting Calgary 8-0], then rested on our laurels after the first 12 minutes."

Fortunately for the Flames, that’s exactly what happened.
