Can Peter the Great Still be Great?
Trading two young prospects and two drafts picks for a 33-year-old injury-prone player is a huge risk but clearly the Nashville Predators believe the presence of Peter Forsberg will give their Stanley Cup prospects a huge shot in the arm. While it’s always a huge challenge getting value for value when you trade a superstar, Philadephia Flyers general manager Paul Holgrom did a pretty good job by acquiring Scott Upshall, 19-year-old Ryan Parent, and first and third-round picks in this year’s entry draft. Forsberg becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1 so there’s a chance he may return to Philadelphia or Colorado, retire or return to play in Sweden. You wonder if the Forsberg deal will force other GMs into action before the Feb. 27 trading deadline. One player that could easily get traded is the NYI’s Mike Sillinger who has played with about dozen teams since he entered the league in 1990. Fore more on the trade, click here.
