Canadian Idol Judge Zack Werner at JunoCup 2008

Canadian Idol judge, Zack Werner, participated in the 2008 JunoCup last night and even scored a goal for his team (the “Rockers”).  I was able to head down to the ice with the other members of the press and I had such a great time.  Here are some pics of Zack (and me!) from the […]

NHL All-Star Game - East Beats West!

ARGH!!! Talk about a close game!  Even though Rick Nash opened the scoring for the west during the NHL All-Star Game 12 seconds in to the first, it was an up and down roller coaster that led to the Eastern Conference taking the win (they won 8-7).
The East were leading heading in to the third […]

NHL All-Star YoungStars Game - Video

It may have been a short game (just 12 minutes!) but it was great!  As soon as you’d recover from one goal being scored another would get put in.  These young players are really dynamic and I found it extremely exciting to watch them play.
Watch the game:

Team Canada Wins Gold at World Juniors!

It was an exciting game the other day when Team Canada faced off against Sweden and the World Juniors!  Honestly, with Canada up 2-0, I was getting a little bored.  Happy, but bored.  I think watching "Miracle" over the holidays with my son made me want a little more "down-to-the-last-second" hockey.  My wish was granted!  […]

The Canadian junior team knocked off the U.S. with a 4-1 victors in the semifinals.  Former London Knights goaltender, Steve Mason, had been dealt to the Ontario Hockey League’s Kitchener Rangers earlier in the day and delivered a 33-save performance in Canada’s win in Pardubice, Czech Republic.
"It was sweet," Canadian forward Colton Gillies said. "That […]

Katz Drilling for Oilers

Billionaire Daryl Katz must really, really want the Edmonton Oilers.
Katz, whose family owns a large pharmacy retail chain, has made another bid for the Oiler - this time a C$170-million to C$175-million offer. This compares with his previous offers of C$145-million and C$150-million.
The biggest obstacle facing Katz and his ownership aspirations is the Oilers’ ownership […]

Politics and the Hamilton Blackberrys

With a provincial election in Ontario this October, the ruling Liberal party would like nothing better than to appear it supports the move of the Nashville Predators to Hamilton. What better way to curry favour with local voters than backing something like an NHL franchise.
The problem, however, is the government can’t be seen to be […]

5 Reasons Why the NHL Ain’t Coming to Hamilton

The Globe & Mail’s David Naylor has a good column looking at the five reasons the NHL - and the Nashville Predators - aren’t coming to Hamilton. The reasons include:
1. The Toronto Maple Leafs and its territorial rights
2. Nashville’s lease
3. Concern about too many teams in one region with Toronto and Buffalo already in […]
