Senators @ Sabres - October 27, 2008

The visiting Ottawa Senators proved to be too hot to handle for the Buffalo Sabres with the Sens skating to an easy 5-2 win.  Jason Spezza (Ottawa) had a great night, scoring two of the five goals.  Here is the scoring summary:

OTT: Schubert, C. (PPG, 18:06 in 1st), Heatley, D. (PPG, 00:19 in 2nd), […]

Sabres Get 4-3 Overtime Win Over Wild

It was a close game last night between the Buffalo Sabres and the Minnesota Wild.  Drew Stafford (Sabres) opened up the scoring in the first period and the two teams answered each other’s goals for the rest of the game.  It went to overtime where, after just 44 seconds, Derek Roy put one in the […]

Buffalo Sabres Pick Matt Ellis Off Waivers

The LA Kings had put left wing, Matt Ellis, on waivers but, fortunately, he was snatched up by the Buffalo Sabres today.
Last year, the 27-year-old player played with both the Kings and the Detroit Red Wings, posting three goals and five assists (8 points) in 54 appearances.  Not great but maybe he will fit in […]

Buffalo Renews Numminen’s Contract

Veteran defenceman, Teppo Numminen, will be playing in the NHL for at least another year.  The Buffalo Sabres are paying him $1.1 million to stay on with the team after he was cleared to play by the Cleveland Clinic after having surgery to repair a heart valve.
“The number one reason was because we […]

Buffalo Sabres Ink Deal with Bouck

The Buffalo Sabres and forward Tyler Bouck have agreed to a contract (details remain undisclosed).  In 79 games as the captain of the Portland Pirates (AHL), he notched 11 goals, 18 assists and 86 penalty minutes.
Bouck was first drafted in the second round by the Dallas Stars in the 1998 and has since recorded four […]

Ryan Miller Gets 5-Year Contract with Sabres

I’m happy about this.  Goaltender Ryan Miller seems like a good fit for the Buffalo Sabres and, although the team (and netminder) could have had a better season, I believe they can do well together once the organization recovers from the loss of players like Daniel Briere.
Buffalo has extended a 5-year contract worth […]

Boulerice vs. Peters - Hockey Fight Video

Wow.  First of all, these commentators are lame.  Sorry.  I just needed to say that.  Philadelphia Flyers‘ Jesse Boulerice is just coming back from a 25 game suspension but that didn’t stop him from scrapping with Andrew Peters (Buffalo Sabres) last night.

Zednik’s Throat Cut By Skate Blade - In Stable Condition

This is scary!  Florida Panthers forward Richard Zednik was rushed to a Buffalo area hospital after the skate blade of teammate Olli Jokinen struck the side of Zednik’s neck. Zednik skated over to the Panthers’ bench as blood poured onto the ice.  Last I heard, he was undergoing surgery.  Thanks to Iron Mike of Educated […]

Hockey Fight: Thorburn vs. Pratt

The Atlanta Thrashers were at the Buffalo Sabres last night and Chris Thorburn (Thrashers) and Nolan Pratt (Sabres) dropped gloves in the 2nd period.  It was the first of Pratt’s two fights in the game (see below).
The Sabres beat the Thrashers 10-1 - ouch!

Hockey Fight: Boulton vs. Pratt

The players were obviously emotional at last night’s game when the Atlanta Thrashers visited the Buffalo Sabres.  This time, Eric Boulton (Thrashers) dealt a late hit to Jason Pominville (in the 3rd).  Nolan Pratt (Sabres) skated on over and bumped Boulton back, presumably to retaliate for his hit to Pominville.  Boulton received an instigator, crosschecking, […]
