Senators @ Sabres - October 27, 2008

The visiting Ottawa Senators proved to be too hot to handle for the Buffalo Sabres with the Sens skating to an easy 5-2 win.  Jason Spezza (Ottawa) had a great night, scoring two of the five goals.  Here is the scoring summary:

OTT: Schubert, C. (PPG, 18:06 in 1st), Heatley, D. (PPG, 00:19 in 2nd), […]

Penguins Beat Senators in Sweden

Ottawa Senators captain, Daniel Alfredsson, had to deal with a 4-3 overtime loss in his native land today when his team was defeated in the season opener by the Pittsburgh Penguins.  That must have sucked not only for him but for the Swedish fans.  Fortunately, it wasn’t the landslide victory I was worried it might […]

Senators Extend Vermette’s Contract

Looks like the Ottawa Senators didn’t want to risk losing forward, Antoine Vermette (there were some rumblings about the Vancouver Canucks showing some interest) and have re-signed him to a two-year contract worth $5.525 million.
He had a great season last year and enjoyed career highs with 24 goals and 29 assists.  He also had […]

Ray Emery Accepts Responsibilty on OTR

Former Ottawa Senators goaltender, Ray Emery, was on TSN’s “Off the Record” where he was asked a bunch of questions before he jets off to play in the Russian league.  Some of it was just silly but not all of it was fun and games - the “Razor” finally owned his role in the deterioration […]

Ottawa Senators 2007-2008 Highlights

The season started exceptionally well for the Ottawa Senators and then, right around Christmas time, things just started to fall apart.  Many people have blamed goaltender, Ray Emery, for the troubles, saying he brought “bad energy” to the team and locker room.  I hate to say it but I’ve got to agree and despite the […]

2008-2009 Season - Year of Rookie Coaches

Next season, we are going to see several “rookie” coaches behind the benches across the NHL.  We’ve got Todd McLellan, an assistant to Stanley Cup-winning coach, Mike Babcock, heading over to lead the San Jose Sharks.
The Ottawa Senators will now be under the direction of Craig Hartsburg, who will join the NHL after a […]

Ray Emery - Where’s He Going?

One of the most talked about hockey players this season was goaltender, Ray Emery, and, unfortunately, it was usually for all the wrong reasons.  The Ottawa Senators were swept (SWEPT!) by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round of this season’s Stanley Cup Playoffs and almost everyone is blaming the “Razor.”  I don’t know if […]

2008 Journey to the Cup - Ottawa Senators

The Ottawa Senators were swept by the Pittsburgh Penguins (ouch) and there have been all kinds of rumors and finger pointing but they did make it to the playoffs (even if it ended the way it did).  Here’s their montage:

2008 Stanley Cup Playoffs - Penguins Sweep the Senators!

WOW!!!  The Pittsburgh Penguins basically killed the Ottawa Senators.  It was absolutely rough!  The Pens swept the series and booted the Sens out of the playoffs.  It was a deserving ending to an embattled season for the Sens.
What do you think?  Should they dump goalie, Ray Emery?
Here are the highlights from last night’s game:
