Leafs Ask Sundin To Waive No-Trade Clause

The Toronto Maple Leafs have asked their captain, Mats Sundin, to waive the no-trade clause in his contract but el capitan is not having it.  He wants to stay in Toronto (wow!  I would be gone!!!!!  Just kidding, sort of, lol). How do we know this juicy tidbit!?  Sundin himself revealed the details after this […]

Calgary Flames Acquire Vandermeer

The Calgary Flames have acquired defenceman James Vandermeer from the Philadelphia Flyers for a third-round draft pick in 2009.
So far this season, he has three goals, 15 assists and 71 penalty minutes in 54 games this season with the Chicago Blackhawks and the Flyers.  In all of his 246 career games he only has […]

Tampa Bay’s Lecavalier Asking for Trade?

Is Tampa Bay Lightning star, Vincent Lecavalier, going to ask to be traded over the summer?  I know I would!  Veteran journalist Al Strachan seems to think that’s going to happen and he also is guessing about where Lecavalier could end up: Montreal!
“Vincent Lecavalier figures he’s put enough time in Tampa and wants to go […]

NHL Trade Deadline Watch - Video

Last minute trades can be a really good thing but they can also be devastating to fans who see some of their favorites dealt to other teams.  I’m hoping my breath, personally.
ESPN believes that the Toronto Maple Leafs are going to do some major trades (like Mats Sundin).  Olli Jokinen, Rob Blake, Dan Boyle, Brian […]

Stillman and Commodore Traded to Sens

I’m sure we’re going to be seeing many more transactions before the trade deadline on February 26, 2008 at 3pm EST.  In the meantime, the Carolina Hurricanes have sent Cory Stillman and Mike Commodore to the Ottawa Senators since the Sens wanted to bolster their number of players with playoff experience, secondary scoring and toughness […]

San Jose Sharks Acquire Jody Shelley

The San Jose Sharks have acquired left wing Jody Shelley from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for a sixth round selection in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.  I wonder if he’ll be in the lineup tonight.  I’m going to see the Sharks vs. the Calgary Flames game tonight at the Pengrowth Saddledome.
“Jody Shelley is […]

Niedermayer Back For Shark Attack?

Could Scott Niedermayer be back on the ice in time for the game against the San Jose Sharks today?  The veteran defenseman has been added to the Anaheim Ducks‘ active players list.  The 34-year-old Stanley Cup MVP had been considering retiring since the start of the season.
It’s kinda rough for Andy McDonald, though, […]

Dallas Stars Acquire Jussi Timonen

The Philadelphia Flyers have given Jussi Timonen to the Dallas Stars in return for a conditional 2009 draft choice.
"With the Phantoms having two defencemen coming back from injury, we will have a logjam on defence," Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said. "This will give Jussi an opportunity to play."

Uh huh… Well, Timonen, 24, has 7 […]

Watch Out, the Flyers are Back!

It was only a few months ago that the Philadelphia Flyers capped off a terrible season that saw them trade Peter Forsberg and miss the playoffs for the first time in eons. It was not a good time in the City of Brotherly Love.
Today, Flyer fans have good reason to be optimistic following a flurry […]

The NHL Draft: Some Intrigue, Some Deals

Well, the NHL draft has come and gone. Not a lot of surprises with Patrick Kane being selected first by the Chicago Blackhawks. (Here’s a draft review for anyone looking for a recap).
From a business perspective, perhaps the most interesting development was Nashville continuing to reduce costs by trading some of their higher-price players. […]
