Chris Simon Suspended for 30 Games
New York Islanders defenceman, Chris Simon, has been suspended for 30 games for his nasty attack on the Pittsburgh Penguins right wing, Jarko Ruutu, but, if it was me, it would be indefinitely. The ban is the longest in modern NHL history.
Sound familiar? I’m sure it does because that’s what we said last time Simon was punished. His two-handed hit on New York Rangers forward, Ryan Hollweg, earned him a 25 game suspension (and made him miss the first 5 games of the current season) and that was supposed to be some sort of record. The league said that since this was the 7th time Simon was up for discipline, it played a major factor in his punishment despite the fact that Ruutu was uninjured.
