Detroit Red Wings Take Lead in 2008 Western Conference Finals
Last night’s game felt like a tighter battled continuation of Game 1 between the Detroit Red Wings and Dallas Stars.
Dallas fell to the Wings but they can’t look to goalie Marty Turco to blame - the netminder was excellent, despite the loss, stopping 32 of 34 shots on goal. Stephane Robidas opened scoring on a power-play about halfway through the first but that would be the only goal for Dallas during their 2-1 loss.
For Detroit, Henrik Zetterberg scored the game-winning goal during a power-play late in the first period and Darren Helm, a rookie with no playoff experience who had played just seven regular-season games, got Detroit on the board when he scored his first NHL goal.
If the Stars are going to turn this series around and avoid being swept, they are going to have to start taking A LOT more shots on goal. They only tested Wings goaltender, Chris Osgood, 18 times which I find incredibly low for a playoff game.
Then, at the end of the game, Mike Ribeiro did something ridiculously stupid. He skating behind the net and slashed Osgood. It didn’t look like a major hit or anything and I’m sure Oz is just fine but he definitely laid there and let the officiators know that contact had been made. The only thing I want to say is that a) I hate when people touch the other team’s goaltender but b) from my eyes, it looks like Osgood gave Ribeiro a little smack as he skated by before the slash. So…. I don’t know what to say about this one.
