Detroit Red Wings Win 2008 Stanley Cup
Well… it’s over. The NHL hockey season that is. Lord Stanley was handed over to the Detroit Red Wings last night after their 3-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 6. I wasn’t rooting for the Wings but I felt sorry that they won in Pittsburgh. There was little cheery, very few fans and mostly empty seats staring back at them as they hoisted the Stanley Cup over their heads.
It was an intense but not spectacular game. The main moments of excitement for me were when Evgeni Malkin (Pens) actually scored a goal and reminded me of his existence and then with just milliseconds left on the clock, it looked like the Penguins had scored and tied the game. Instead, the puck just flitted along the goal line and out the other side of Wings netminder, Chris Osgood.
Tonight’s win has made Nicklas Lidstrom the first European captain to lead his team to the Stanley Cup title. Center, Henrik Zetterberg, was named the “Most Valuable Player” of the postseason and earned the Conn Smythe trophy.
I think the Penguins played well but having key players like Malkin playing way below par did not help them. Captain, Sidney Crosby, should be proud of his accomplishment - as the youngest captain in NHL history, he made it to the Stanley Cup final in just his third season. That’s an amazing feat.
Congratulations to the Red Wings - better luck next year, Pittsburgh!

I respect your opinion and I’m sorry I put the wrong “strom.” I do know the difference but people make mistakes and that night was exhausting.
Thanks for the comment.
