Emery Regrets Distracting Ottawa Senators

Ottawa Senators goaltender Ray Emery, whose future with the club has been at the center of speculation recently has had some explaining to do.
Quick recap: The Sens imported Martin Gerber, who has been good between the pipes. When Emery got injured, people began to wonder where he would fit in when he came back. Speculation was further fueled when Emery failed to practice with his team on Friday. He had an explanation, though.
Just before Ottawa’s 8-6 loss to the Washington Capitals on Saturday, Emery revealed what really happened.
"I just slept in yesterday and got here late and the coach [John Paddock] just told me to beat it," Emery told reporters before Saturday’s game. "I have never been a guy who has been on time all the time. It was disappointing not getting here on time yesterday.
The team is in first place in the conference and I don’t want to be a distraction and that’s what’s happening right now. That is the only thing I feel bad for right now is the distraction because the team is playing really well."
Emery’s tardiness was his second transgression in as many days. During Thursday’s practice, the Ottawa goaltender threw his stick into the stands and stomped off the ice before talking to reporters. That all took place after Paddock chose Martin Gerber to start that evening’s game against the New York Islanders, which Ottawa won 5-2.
"The bottom line is he missed practice," general manager Bryan Murray told the Globe and Mail. "I give John credit because you can’t hold up practice for one player. Unfortunately, it was a goaltender.
"That was disappointing from our point of view. The broken stick in practice is also part of it."
Well, I’ve never been a fan of Emery’s and this is exactly why. He got too big too fast and I think he acts like a spoiled brat sometimes. He really needs to control his temper. Anyway, it’s the stats that matter because they don’t lie - Emery has started in just one game since injuring his hip during on December 12th and it was a 4-3 overtime loss to Chicago on December 22. Gerber has posted six wins in his last eight starts.
I’m sure Emery’s behavior has made the coaches choice for starting goalie that much easier…
