Empty Seats in Detroit Too
Looks like the fans masquerading as empty seats in New Jersey are also alive and well in Detroit as well judging by the attendance during Game #1 of the conference semi-final against San Jose. Is there a trend here? Does this suggest that once hockey fans in the U.S. have seen a Stanley Cup winner or two, they lose their zest for the team? Maybe the situation in Detroit has something to do with the resurgence of the Detroit Tigers baseball team, which struggled badly for years before winning the division title last year. The Red Wings may also be suffering from the troubled local auto economy as Chrysler struggles against foreign rivals such as Toyota.

For a really in-depth look at the Red Wings’ playoff box office struggles, a must-read is Behind the Jersey, which compares a bunch of things between the Red Wings and the Detroit Pistons such as regular season ticket prices, playoff tickets prices, as well as a look at the local economy.

Hey Mark, I like that logo…lol. I thought I’d swing by and take a look. Your comment box is a little funky though. You can’t read the text fields above each input box to tell what you are supposed to type where. It might be influencing your comments a little.
