Free-Agent Flurry

by Mark on July 2nd, 2007

There’s clearly lots to talk about now that the free-agent season has finally started. But what is perhaps most intriguing is how quickly many of the top stars found new teams. No sooner did the 12 p.m. deadline arrive did players such as Ryan Smyth, Chris Drury, Daniel Briere and Jason Blake find new teams. Clearly, their agents has been doing due diligence on the landscape and figured out where their clients wanted to go.

So far, the New York Rangers have won the free-agents sweepstakes with the signing of Chris Drury and Scott Gomez. The Maple Leafs did well with Blake, who gives them some much-needed scoring punch and finally a winger who can play with Mats Sundin. Detroit did well getting Brian Rafalski while Colorado scored by picking up Ryan Smyth and the under-rated Scott Hannan.
