Habs Goalie Carey Price Looking Forward to Rest
Montreal Canadiens rookie goalie, Carey Price, is saying that he’s looking forward to a little peace and quiet following his crazy year. The super young goaltender took over the top spot when the Habs traded Cristobal Huet to the Washington Capitals.
“It seems like I’ve been playing for two years straight,” the 20-year-old said Monday as the Canadiens got together for a last team meeting before going their separate ways for the summer.
“It’ll be nice to get away and go fishing - and turn my phone off for a month.”
He probably needs a little more than a month, lol. Everyone, of course, looks to the netminder when a team loses and people are always going to talk about what could have happened had the Habs kept Huet between the pipes. That’s a tough position for anyone to be in nevermind a young player like Price.
I like Jaroslav Halak and I wish they would play him more. I think these two, played in tandem, might have been a wiser choice under the circumstances. It’s hard enough for NHL veterans to keep going during the grueling playoffs and I think Price was overworked. Even he had to admit it was a lot:
“I love playing, but I think at the end I was getting a little worn out,” Price said. “The biggest thing that got on my mind was letting my team down. That was the biggest thing nagging me.”
Just last, Price led Canada to gold at the world junior championship (it was quite exciting!) and then he joined the Hamilton Bulldogs (he led them to an AHL title) after his junior season ended. After a short summer break, he made the Canadiens roster out of training camp.
I think it’s time for a rest, Carey.
