Katz Makes $145M Bid for Oilers
After being owned by a 37-member consortium that kept the Edmonton Oilers alive in Alberta until the new collective bargaining agreement restore some financial sanity to the NHL, the team could have a team owner soon. Daryl Katz, a billionaire who owns the 1,800-store Katz Group pharmacy chain, has made a surprise $145-million (C$) all-cash bid for the Oilers. Katz plans to keep the tam in Edmonton.
