My Biggest Surprises of the 2008 Stanley Cup Quarterfinals
It’s hasn’t been the most shocking playoffs in history but there were things about the 2008 Stanley Cup Semifinals that surprised me. Here we go:
- Washington Capitals fall to the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 7. Honestly, I thought the Caps were going to pull it together with some miraculous goal and take it all but they didn’t and I was surprised. Washington has Cristobal Huet in net and I thought he might have a slight edge on the Flyers’ netminder, Martin Biron, who is in his first playoff run as the #1 goalie. I think Philly is reaping the benefit of good trades too - how can you not think that things might be different without Daniel Briere?
- The Nashville Predators actually pushed the Detroit Red Wings into a Game 6! That surprised and impressed me! I was happy to see Jordin Tootoo score two goals during the series.
- The Calgary Flames had some players who totally flaked out, much to my dismay but not shock, during their series against the San Jose Sharks. Holy crap, I want to see Kristian Huselius traded IMMEDIATELY! Hey, I am sorry but this is his third playoff with Calgary and he has done almost nothing in any of the series. It’s almost scary and I just need to say that the Juice has got to be relocated.
Biggest Bitches of the Semifinals:
Holy crap - I could not believe the bitch-ness of two teams in particular. What the heck did the Anaheim Ducks and Ottawa Senators think was happening because they surely didn’t seem to realize they were in the Stanley Cup Playoffs! Anaheim had so much on their side but they couldn’t get it done and geez - what can you say about the Sens getting SWEPT!?!?
