NHL 2008 Trade Winners and Losers - Video

by Jeanne on February 27th, 2008

The Melrose Line (ESPN) talked about the winners and losers from the trade transactions yesterday.

For “winners,” he obviously talked about Marian Hossa going to the Pittsburgh Penguins, Brad Richards getting picked up by the Dallas Stars and the flurry of activity for the Colorado Avalanche.

Of equal importance are the “losers.”  Yikes.  Some of these deals, like the dumping of Cristobal Huet by the Montreal Canadiens is so shocking and dumb to me that I don’t even know what to say.  Huet is a great goaltender and what do the Habs have left?  Carey Price and Jaroslav Halak?  WOW!  That’s nowhere near where I would want to be if my team was 7th in the league and one point away from being the best in the Northeast Division!

Whatever… They also talk about the Toronto Maple Leafs, Detroit Red Wings, Vancouver Canucks and the New York Rangers.  Watch this:

3 opinions for NHL 2008 Trade Winners and Losers - Video

I think Pittsburgh gave up too much for a rental player like Hossa. I’d be excited if I were a Penguins fan for atleast their ownership is showing they want to win the cup! The Sabres traded away Brian Campbell and did nothing else at the trade deadline to keep up with the other teams. Now, they may have just swapped spots with Washington as worst team in the conference as The Capitals boosted their team heavily!

Trading Huet was a huge mistake for Montreal. They gave up having two great goalies to fall on. That safety net is gone.
And how insulting to Huet to be traded for a second round draft pick.
