Penguins Beat Flyers in Game 1 of 2008 Conference Finals
The first game of the 2008 Eastern Conference Finals is over and the Pittsburgh Penguins easily beat the Philadelphia Flyers. With five of the six goals scored in the first period and a final one netted early in the second, it was just a matter of maintaining the lead for the Pens. Mike Richards was responsible for all the scoring for Philly while the usual suspects, Petr Sykora, Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin (two goals!) scored for Pittsburgh.
I’ve got to say that Malkin is looking better and better all the time. I know Crosby is a superstar and he’s been dubbed the “next Great One” but he’s been overshadowed by Malkin of late. The worst thing that happened for Sid (getting injured) turned out to be the best thing for Malkin - the pressure was on to help the team advance to the playoffs and he delivered. I’m thrilled that he’s still playing like that even with Sidney back in the lineup.
I am not hating on anyone but I’ve got to say that Flyers goalie, Martin Biron, surprised me with his lack of efficiency - he let in 17 of 21 shots on net. What’s that like .809/.81? If the Flyers have a chance against this young team, Biron is going to have to start standing on his head - fast!

Well, the way I look at things, Biron was really the only thing that stood between the Flyers and total destruction in their series against the Habs (and as a Toronto fan I really have no reason to be charitable to the habs, lol). If he doesn’t pick things up, it’ll be a quick exit for Philly in the conference finals.

I’m agreeing with you more and more by the day. I really don’t like the Flyers and I wasn’t thrilled to see them make the playoffs so I’m not exactly crying in my soup.
