Predators a Hot Ticket…in Hamilton
Tickets for the Hamilton Predators went on sale yesterday - and fans wasted little time climbing on the bandwagon. According to the Toronto Star, the team received 7,317 deposits on tickets (4,796 for lower bowl seats at $1,000 each and 2,474 for the upper bowl at $500 each) and 47 deposits of $5,000 each for corporate suites. This generated $6.26-million of cash that will, obviously, have to be returned if Jim Balsillie’s bid to move the Predators to Nashville fails to happen.
Nevertheless, it does demonstrate that NHL hockey could be a hot commodity in Hamilton, which has been trying to get a franchise for nearly 20 years. Of course, it should be pointed out that fan support for the American Hockey League’s Hamilton Bulldogs was, at best, modest this year. In fact, attendance sagged during the AHL playoffs as the Bulldogs proceeded to win the championship over the Hersey Bears.
