The NHL is Gutless

by Mark on March 4th, 2007

If the NHL was serious about getting rid of the cheap shots and goonery that still plagues the game, they would have given the New Jersey Devils’ Cam Janssen a much stiffer suspension for hitting the Maple Leafs’ Tomas Kaberle on Friday night. Janssen was only given a three-game suspension while Kaberle will be out of action for the 10 days. Sure, Kaberle should have kept his head up after making a cross-ice pass but Janssen has not explanation for ramming into Kaberle when he no longer had the puck. Then again, Janssen only gets three or four minutes of ice time a game so I guess he feels the need to make an impression any chance he gets. The Kaberle hit comes in the wake of Chris Neil putting the Sabres’ Chris Drury out of action with a concussion following a mid-ice hit a week or so ago.
