Trade Deadline Deals Prove Expensive
For a variety of reasons, the price of acquiring players near or at the trade deadline is getting extremely expensive. First, Keith Tkachuk gets traded from St. Louis to Atlanta for first, second and third-round draft picks, and - get this - another first-round choice if he re-signs with the Thrashers. That’s a huge price for a guy whose production has declined and whose dedication to the game can, at times, is questioned. If you’re shaking your head at the Tkachuk deal, then you’ll be absolutely puzzled by a report the Maple Leafs are willing to give up a second and fourth-round draft pick and a young prospect for 4o-year-old Gary Roberts. So what will Roberts do, get the Leafs into the players so the can be bounced in the first round?
