Wings’ Hasek Out With Sore Hip
Uhhh…. considering how old Dominik Hasek is, it’s pretty amazing that it’s just his hip that is hurting. Finally, Chris Osgood is getting a chance to be the No. 1 goalie with the Detroit Red Wings.
Hasek, 42, sidelined indefinitely with a sore hip. [He] made 13 saves in Detroit’s 3-2 win over Vancouver on Wednesday to raise his season record to 4-2-1 with a 2.68 goals-against average.
“This has been lingering for a while now, and Dom just wants it to go away,” general manager Ken Holland told The Detroit News. “This early in the season, we’ll give him a few days off here and, hopefully, the rest will help.
“We don’t think this is anything major. Dom says it just doesn’t feel right.”
The Red Wings called up Jimmy Howard from their American Hockey League affiliate in Grand Rapids to back up Osgood.
Howard is 3-1-0 with a 3.00 GAA in four games with the Griffins this season.
In other Red Wings news, forward Dallas Drake was placed on injured reserve Thursday for a broken cheekbone sustained Oct. 18 against San Jose. He is expected to miss at least one week.
It’s called age, people. I know. Don’t hate me but I just want him to retire. He is an amazing goalie and all but… well, I’ll just leave the rest in my mind.

Wow. I didn’t know he was 42! That’s amazing with all the work goalies have to do.
